The Aix-en-Provence agency’s latest project
Calogena
The new generation Calogena reactor meets the objectives of the French National Low-Carbon Strategy (NLCS) as well as European commitments in terms of carbon neutrality. Faced with an increase in urban heating needs, estimated at 1,000 TWh by 2050 compared to 450 TWh in 2022, it has become essential to develop a sustainable and safe energy solution. The challenge? Designing a compact, reliable reactor that not only limits operational risks, but also optimises operating costs.
Seres Technologies worked on the design of this reactor intended for urban heating networks, incorporating thermosyphoning-based passive safety systems. This process allows for natural ‘pumpless’ circulation of water, reducing the risk of failure and boosting the reactor’s resilience in the event of an incident.
